On Photography - 6 lesson eCourse
IN THEIR WORDS
I loved Julia’s beautifully written ‘On Photography Ecourse’. It's full of tips and information for a beginner like me that were easy to follow and understand. I feel really motivated now to put what I’ve learnt into practice. Thank you!

On Photography is a 6 lesson eCourse designed to help you make the most of your photography while learning at your own pace, online.
Knowing how to use your camera is only part of photography, learning how to capture light, subject and story are just as important.
This eCourse is suitable for anyone who is looking to improve on basic photography skills and build visual stories through their images. Whether to capture a family moment, or to build a cohesive aesthetic for your social media or website, we will look at making the best of your captures and focus on photographing with intent.
We will get to the bottom of what you want from your photography, look at using manual camera settings and working the external factors to your advantage. This course contains elements of reading, short films and a practical homework for you to enjoy each lesson.
The eCourse is self-led, and you will have direct contact with me via email - should you want it.
THE LESSON PLAN
LESSON 1 - looks at equipment & your reasons for wanting to learn photography
LESSON 2 - how your camera works and how to use manual settings
LESSON 3 - on composition, light & framing
LESSON 4 - is about editing your photographs, from workflow to selective editing
LESSON 5 - looks at storytelling through photography
LESSON 6 - explores creative photography techniques & further references
WHAT ELSE IS INCLUDED?
Access to the course is through a personal account on my website, you will need to create one to access the eCourse.
The list of photography equipment explains what each piece does and why / when you might need it.
A list of further references and sources of inspiration for your own photography.
Critiquing of some of your photographs should you wish.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED?
A camera. It won’t matter if it is a compact camera or a full frame DSLR, but it would be helpful if you have at least some manual settings/capability. (There are also manual camera setting apps for phones which are a great way to begin if you haven’t yet invested in a camera but still want to take the course.)
Editing software - it doesn't matter which you choose and you can wait until lesson 4 to research before investing. I use Lightroom to edit in lesson 4 but the information is both relevant and transferable to whichever editing software or app you use.
HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU NEED?
As much as you can give it! A minimum of 30-60 minutes a lesson but really the more you practise, the more you will progress. Although the course is self led, I will be on the end of an email should you have any further questions.
HOW LONG IS ACCESS TO THE ECOURSE OPEN?
Forever - or as long as you keep an account open on my website.
COURSE UPDATED JANUARY 2020
The eCourse is now fully self led. After finding that participants prefer to learn at their own pace, I have taken out the six week scedule and learning can now be enjoyed at your own pace. There is no pressure to complete it within any timeframe!
More on rules of composition has also been added.
