In my house we have our favourite go-to snack. We all love a bag of popcorn. The flavour preference may vary but, yep, popcorn it is. So I am pretty excited to be sharing the box of loveliness that Propercorn’s Institute of Flavour have sent over…
Inside are little pots of powdered ingredients. They vary from salt and strawberry to kale and tomato! Something for everyone there. Each comes from one of the 5 tastes (sweet, salt, sour, bitter and umami) and to make a flavour we simply chose two ingredients from different groups and add to freshly popped corn (with a little sugar if the flavour you close is sweet). I thought this would be fun for Millie and Ed, at almost 14 and 12 they are very happy to help with this particular ‘job’. Can’t think why…
Millie chose blackberry and honey and named hers ‘berry sweet & sour’, she says its ‘yum’! Ed chose strawberry and honey (ok these are both sweet, he has a very sweet tooth…) and named it ‘strawberry crunch’, he thought it was ‘extremely nice’ high praise indeed!
And of course I – I mean Anna – had a go too with cocoa and strawberry, not that I ate much of it as Anna whisked to bowl away to some secret location to eat it by herself! As snacks go though, popcorn is one I don’t mind them choosing.
Propercorn are encouraging you to have a go at designing and naming your own popcorn flavour, with the opportunity for one lucky person to have their flavour produced as a limited edition for stores in the UK and Ireland. Now I think that’s quite an exciting thing! You can find more information at the Institute of Flavour where the choices are vast, the possibilities endless… Have fun!
